Why This Test Matters

Why Every Man Above 40 Needs Annual Cancer Screening

These are the clinical facts that make this test one of the most important health decisions a man can make.

🔴
Prostate Cancer: #2 in Indian Men
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in Indian men. The PSA test can detect abnormalities 5–10 years before symptoms appear — enabling curative treatment when caught early.
🔇
No Symptoms Until Late Stage
Prostate, liver, pancreatic and colorectal cancers often produce zero symptoms until Stage 3 or 4. Blood tumour markers are the only way to detect them before they become symptomatic.
Early Detection = 90%+ Survival
Prostate cancer caught at Stage 1–2 has near-100% 5-year survival. At Stage 4 it drops to under 30%. The same applies to colorectal and liver cancers — time is everything.
🧬
Family History Doubles Your Risk
Men with a first-degree relative with prostate or colorectal cancer have 2–3x higher risk. Annual screening should start at age 40 if family history is present.
💉
Just One Blood Draw
All 6 markers are measured from a single blood sample — no fasting required, no special preparation, no imaging. Collected at your home in under 5 minutes.
🏥
Endorsed by Urologists & Oncologists
Routine PSA screening is recommended by the Urological Society of India for all men above 50 (or 40 with family history). CEA and AFP are standard first-line markers used by oncologists globally.

What Each Marker Tests and Detects

Each of the 6 markers targets specific cancer types — with normal reference ranges clearly marked. Tap any marker to expand full clinical detail.

🆋
✓ No Fasting Required for This Panel
Unlike most blood tests, this cancer marker panel does not require fasting. Eat and drink normally before collection. The only precaution for PSA testing: avoid ejaculation, vigorous exercise and rectal examination for 24–48 hours before the test, as these can temporarily elevate PSA levels.
1
Pancreas & GI Cancer
CA 19.9
Carbohydrate Antigen 19.9
Pancreatic CancerBile DuctColorectalGastric

CA 19.9 is the primary tumour marker for pancreatic cancer — one of the deadliest cancers due to its typically late diagnosis. It is also elevated in cancers of the bile duct, gallbladder, stomach and colorectal tract. Pancreatic cancer is notoriously asymptomatic in early stages; CA 19.9 is one of the few tools available for early detection before symptoms develop.

Reference Range
< 37 U/mL  —  Normal
2
Colorectal & Multi-Cancer
CEA
Carcinoembryonic Antigen
ColorectalLungPancreaticGastric

CEA is the most widely used tumour marker for colorectal cancer — the third most common cancer globally and increasingly prevalent in India. It is also elevated in lung, breast, stomach and pancreatic cancers. CEA is used both for initial screening and for monitoring treatment response and recurrence after cancer surgery.

Reference Range
< 2.5 ng/mL
Non-Smokers
< 5.0 ng/mL
Smokers
3
Liver Cancer
AFP
Alpha-Fetoprotein
Liver (HCC)TesticularPancreatic

AFP is the primary marker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) — primary liver cancer. India has one of the highest rates of liver cancer globally, largely driven by Hepatitis B and C infections and alcoholic liver disease. AFP is also elevated in testicular germ cell tumours and some pancreatic cancers. Liver cancer has a much better prognosis when detected at small tumour sizes — AFP surveillance makes this possible.

Reference Range
< 10 ng/mL  —  Normal (Adults)
4
Prostate Cancer
PSA — Total
Prostate Specific Antigen (Total)
Prostate CancerBPH Differentiation

PSA is produced exclusively by the prostate gland. Total PSA is the foundational screening test for prostate cancer — the second most common cancer in Indian men. An elevated PSA triggers further investigation (PSA Free ratio, biopsy, MRI). PSA screening allows prostate cancer to be caught at Stage 1–2 when it is completely curable, versus Stage 4 when it is not.

Prostate Cancer vs BPH

PSA Free is the clinically critical companion to PSA Total. When Total PSA falls in the 4–10 ng/mL grey zone, the Free PSA percentage (Free ÷ Total × 100) distinguishes between benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer with high accuracy. A low Free PSA % (<15%) strongly suggests malignancy; a high Free PSA % (>25%) reassures that the elevation is likely benign. Including PSA Free prevents unnecessary biopsies while ensuring real cancers are not missed.

6
Testicular & Bladder
Beta HCG
Beta Human Chorionic Gonadotropin
Testicular (Seminoma)ChoriocarcinomaBladderLiver

In men, elevated Beta HCG is a key marker for testicular germ cell tumours (seminomas and non-seminomas) — the most common solid tumour in men aged 15–45. It is also elevated in choriocarcinoma, bladder cancer and some liver and lung cancers. Beta HCG combined with AFP provides a comprehensive testicular cancer screening profile and is used for monitoring treatment response and detecting recurrence after surgery.

Reference Range
< 5.0 mIU/mL  —  Normal in Men
Is This Test Right for You?

Who Should Book the Men's Cancer Screening Panel?

This test is recommended for any man who fits any of these profiles — the earlier you screen, the better your outcomes.

👴 Men Above 40
Cancer risk increases significantly after 40. Annual PSA, CEA and AFP screening is the standard of care for men in this age group worldwide.
🧬 Family History of Cancer
Father, brother or close relative with prostate, colorectal, liver or pancreatic cancer? Your risk is 2–3x higher — screening should start at 35–40.
🚬 Smokers & Alcohol Drinkers
Smoking is a major risk factor for lung, colorectal and bladder cancers. Alcohol significantly raises liver (AFP) and GI (CEA) cancer risk. Annual markers are essential.
⚠️ Unexplained Weight Loss or Fatigue
Unintentional weight loss, chronic fatigue, loss of appetite or abdominal pain without a clear cause — these can be early cancer symptoms that warrant marker testing immediately.
🦠 Hepatitis B or C Carriers
Chronic hepatitis B or C significantly raises liver cancer risk. AFP is the primary screening marker for hepatocellular carcinoma — annual testing is essential for hepatitis carriers.
🛡️ Annual Preventive Screening
Even with zero risk factors or symptoms — any man above 40 who wants a clean annual health baseline should include this cancer marker panel in their yearly checkup.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Men's Cancer Screening Blood Test before booking.

1
What cancers does this panel screen for?
This 6-marker panel screens for: Prostate cancer (PSA Total and PSA Free), Colorectal cancer (CEA), Pancreatic and GI cancers (CA 19.9), Liver cancer — hepatocellular carcinoma (AFP), Testicular germ cell tumours (Beta HCG and AFP), Bladder cancer (Beta HCG), and Lung cancer (CEA). These are among the most common and deadly cancers affecting men in India — all detectable at early stages through blood markers before symptoms develop.
2
Does an elevated tumour marker mean I have cancer?
No. An elevated tumour marker is a screening flag requiring follow-up investigation — not a cancer diagnosis. Markers can be elevated due to non-cancerous conditions (BPH for PSA, liver inflammation for AFP, pancreatitis for CA 19.9). If any marker comes back elevated, your doctor will recommend further tests such as imaging, biopsy or specialist consultation. Think of this as a first-line alert system, not a diagnosis.
3
Do I need to fast before this cancer screening test?
No fasting is required. You can eat and drink normally before the blood collection. The only precaution for PSA testing: avoid ejaculation, vigorous exercise and rectal examination for 24–48 hours before the test, as these activities can temporarily elevate PSA levels and may result in false positives.
4
Why are both PSA Total and PSA Free included?
PSA Total alone cannot reliably distinguish prostate cancer from benign prostate enlargement (BPH) — both cause elevated Total PSA. The Free PSA percentage (Free ÷ Total × 100) solves this: below 10% strongly suggests cancer; above 25% suggests benign BPH. Including PSA Free prevents unnecessary biopsies while ensuring real cancers are not missed. Most hospitals charge separately for PSA Free — we include it at no extra cost.
5
At what age should men start cancer screening?
General recommendation: annually from age 50. With family history of prostate, colorectal or liver cancer: from age 40. With hepatitis B or C infection: annual AFP testing should start immediately regardless of age. With heavy alcohol or smoking history: CEA and AFP from age 40. The Urological Society of India recommends PSA testing annually for men above 50, and from 40 with family history.
6
Are reports from NABL Accredited Labs?
Yes. Lotus Diagnostics is an ISO Certified Diagnostic Center and all 6 reports come from a Reports from NABL Accredited Labs. For tumour marker tests especially, reports from NABL Accredited Labs is critical — our immunoassay analysers are calibrated and every batch of test kits is quality-checked. Reports accepted by every oncologist, urologist and insurance company in India.
7
Is this test confidential?
Yes. Complete confidentiality guaranteed. Your cancer screening results are handled with full discretion. Reports are sent only to your personal WhatsApp — never shared without your explicit consent. Our phlebotomist visits your home so there is no need to visit a lab or hospital.
8
Is home sample collection free?
Yes. Free home collection (₹1,000+) across Nizampet, KPHB Colony, Miyapur, Bachupally, Pragathi Nagar, Hydernagar, Kondapur, Gachibowli and surrounding areas. The ₹3,299 price is all-inclusive — no travel fees, no hidden charges.
9
Is this test the same as a cancer diagnosis?
No. This is a cancer screening and risk assessment panel — not a diagnostic test. Cancer is diagnosed by biopsy, imaging and specialist investigations. What this test does is identify men who need those further investigations. A normal result provides reassurance. An elevated result gives your doctor a specific direction to investigate — which is exactly how early detection saves lives.
